The China Regional Selection [Chengdu Station] of GDSC2026 has successfully concluded!

From November 6 to 11, the first stop (Chengdu Station) of the China Regional Selection for the 5th Global Digital Skills Championship (GDSC2026) was successfully held at Chengdu Vocational and Technical College. With multi-party collaboration between government, enterprises and schools, cross-border exchanges among Chinese and Japanese experts, and competitive contests among contestants from across the country, it has injected strong impetus into the talent cultivation of the digital creative industry.

From November 7 to 8, the special lecture by Honda Makoto, representative of Japan’s Studio5, animation director and 3D director, stood out as the biggest highlight. This industry expert, who once led the CGI production of Netflix animations EXCEPTION and MAKE MY DAY, delivered a two-day intensive, full-process practical sharing session under the theme of “Cel Animation Workshop – Uncovering the Techniques of Animation Creation”.

Director Yin Xiao affirmed the college’s achievements in cultivating talents through competitions, and emphasized that the Vocational Skills Competition Management Measures issued by the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security provides guarantee for the competition. He noted, “We should take this training and selection competition as a starting point to build a long-term development platform and achieve accurate connection between vocational education and the industry.”

The lecture content was compact and in-depth, covering the complete workflow of Japanese animation production. It focused on analyzing the color setting, basic composition, texture expression of the cel animation style, and the control methods for complex stylistic elements. On the second day, the lecture focused on animation layout, schedule management, original drawing creation, and the practical application of 3DCG in animation—including key technologies such as CG layout, shot design, and BOOK expression.
The course also specifically emphasized how to achieve 3D effects with 2D materials and the expression techniques for integrating character animation with space. Throughout the training process, the participants not only listened attentively in class but also conducted simultaneous hands-on operations on computers, closely combining theory with practice and gaining substantial insights.

From November 9 to 10, the core competition segment of the Chengdu Station of the China Regional Selection for GDSC2026 officially kicked off. The competition set up four core modules, covering concept design, modeling and texturing, animation creation, and engine interaction, which comprehensively assess the contestants’ comprehensive abilities.

During the technical summary session, contestants showcased their works and shared their design concepts one after another. Through in-depth exchanges, they learned from each other, grew together, absorbed others’ strengths and experiences, and achieved mutual learning and reference. This kind of interaction not only promotes the improvement of individual abilities, but also subtly creates a positive atmosphere of collaboration and common progress, adding a strong academic exchange vibe to the entire competition.
